In this episode, we sit down with Australian blues singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sam Buckley. After spending over two decades as a high-caliber sideman and lead guitarist—most notably with Melbourne’s award-winning outfit Dreamboogie—Sam stepped out from behind the lead guitar role to stake his claim as a solo frontman.
We dive deep into his journey: growing up on a 100-acre farm playing church jams with his dad, logging over 110,000 kilometers in a motorhome on the Australian festival circuit, and recording his debut solo album Blue Ocean at Memphis’ legendary Royal Studios with producer Lester Snell. Sam also breaks down the technical dynamic of his solo rig, creating a full-band experience ground-up through foot percussion, acoustic rhythm switching, and electric lead layering—all without backing tracks.
