#255 Robert Ross on Keeping Traditional Country Alive in a Pop-Country Era

/ Episodes / By

What does it take to forge a career in country music across three continents? In this episode, we sit down with tri-continental country artist Robert Ross—a 11-year Canadian Army veteran, Australian citizen, and current Nashville resident.

Robert opens up about his journey from hearing his mother sing around their home in New Brunswick to topping the Australian Airplay charts with “Jack Daniels” and working alongside Grammy-winning producer Gil Grand on his sophomore album, Better With Time. We discuss how over a decade of military service shaped his “worn denim” songwriting style, the stories behind his Josie Music Award-nominated singles, and the comfort behind his legacy track “Don’t You Cry.”
