This week on Unfiltered & Undiscovered, Curly, Braggy, and Rossy make a trip across the Pacific to tap into the Brooklyn lo-fi scene with songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Daniels, the mastermind behind Inland Years.
Ryan’s musical journey is one of the most fascinating pivots you’ll hear. After coming up in the late-90s heavy underground scene with post-hardcore band Hassan I Sabbah, Ryan shifted gears to craft delicate, tape-saturated indie-folk and jangly pop vignettes—many landing with maximum emotional impact in under two minutes.
In this episode, the boys sit down with Ryan to talk about:
-
The Style Shift: Transitioning from the raw, aggressive energy of screamo/post-hardcore to bedroom pop and analog home recording.
-
Songwriting Economy: The art of packing complete, earworm hooks into concise 90-second tracks on his album Nowadays.
-
Tape Warmth vs. Studio Realism: Tracking between Brooklyn and Pennsylvania on cassette setups versus recording live in a single room through a vintage Neve console for The Bunker Sessions.
-
Physical Artifacts: Why he embraces limited physical runs, like 5-inch lathe-cut records, in an era of digital streaming.
Whether you’re a gear nerd obsessed with analog saturation or a songwriter looking to simplify your craft, this chat is packed with honest insights, studio chat, and zero filter.
