While the lyrics have a clear meaning, they also allow for your own personal interpretation, the journey starts off as a harmonic acoustic. Any song called Afterlife gives a hint of deeper meaning, but initially, the harmonies seduce you into a Sunday Session kind of feeling, harmonies, and acoustics, to make you feel comfortable with the world. However, the kick of some guitar in the first chorus, promises a hint of something more to eventuate.
And eventuate it does. With a venom, the second chorus adds an underlying mash of guitar that I liken to having Jesus and the Mary Chain set up residence on the song. The guitar avalanche flows like a dirty torrent under the song, adding to the depth and the darkness beind the song.
From there the song ramps, the vocals soar and the song exudes the passionate embrace of a life lost too early.
I liken this song to a Sunday Session. The song starts really chilled, like you are settling in for a relaxing afternoon, then kicks along as more people arrive, and then soars to a climax with Jeff’s vocals. I love it, so check it out and follow Jeff on Spotify
